The Video Volume Adjuster is a free browser-based tool that lets you increase or decrease the audio volume in video files. Boost quiet recordings up to 300% volume or reduce loud audio down to a whisper. The tool uses the Web Audio API's GainNode to adjust audio levels precisely while maintaining audio clarity. Preview the volume change in real-time before processing. It's perfect for fixing quiet recordings, reducing loud background noise, or normalizing audio levels. All processing happens locally in your browser — no files are uploaded.

Why Use Video Volume Adjuster?

Technical Guide

The Video Volume Adjuster uses the Web Audio API to modify audio gain. A GainNode is created with the specified volume multiplier (0.0 to 3.0). The video's audio is captured via createMediaElementSource(), routed through the GainNode, and sent to a MediaStreamDestination. The gain value is linear: 1.0 is original volume, 2.0 is double, 0.5 is half. For the recording, the gain-adjusted audio stream is combined with the canvas video stream and fed to MediaRecorder. Preview functionality routes the gain-adjusted audio to both the speakers (for monitoring) and the MediaStreamDestination. Clipping prevention is applied for high gain values to avoid audio distortion.

Tips & Best Practices

  • 1
Boosting very quiet audio above 200% may introduce noise
  • 2
Preview the volume change before processing to check for distortion
  • 3
Values above 100% may cause audio clipping — listen carefully
  • 4
For precise audio editing, consider using a dedicated audio editor
