What Is Holiday Calendar?
The Holiday Calendar displays major holidays for selected countries and years, organized chronologically with the day of the week and holiday type classification. Each holiday is tagged as a public holiday, observance, or religious holiday, and you can filter the list to show only specific types. The tool currently supports the United States and United Kingdom, with holidays calculated algorithmically (including movable dates like Easter, Thanksgiving, and bank holidays). Past holidays are dimmed and today's date is highlighted. The calendar handles complex date rules like "third Monday of January" for MLK Day and the Computus algorithm for Easter dating.

Technical Guide
Holiday dates are calculated using JavaScript date arithmetic. Fixed holidays use simple Date constructors. Movable holidays use nth-weekday algorithms: nthWeekday(year, month, n, dayOfWeek) finds the nth occurrence of a given day in a given month by finding the first occurrence and adding (n-1) weeks. Last-weekday algorithms work backward from the last day of the month. Easter is calculated using the Anonymous Gregorian algorithm (Computus), which computes the date of Easter Sunday from the year using modular arithmetic. The UK bank holidays follow specific rules: Early May is the first Monday of May, Spring Bank Holiday is the last Monday of May, and Summer Bank Holiday is the last Monday of August.
